Country Manager

Detalles de la oferta

The Donkey Sanctuary is an international animal welfare organisation, offering care and protection to donkeys and mules worldwide. We are working for a world where donkeys and mules live free from suffering, and their contribution to humanity is fully valued. We are achieving this by transforming the quality of life for donkeys, mules and people worldwide through greater understanding, collaboration and support, and by promoting lasting, mutually life-enhancing relationships. Globally, we support projects in countries across Africa, Asia, Europe and South America, transforming lives through direct care, community training, collaborative partnerships and advocacy work to improve the way donkeys are treated.
We have a superb opportunity for a focused and dedicated professional to join El Refugio del Burrito. A subsidiary of The Donkey Sanctuary El Refugio del Burrito was established in 2003 to improve conditions for donkeys and mules in Spain.
Proficiently communicating in English and Spanish, as Country Manager you will be ideally educated to degree level or above, and possess significant management experience including proven experience in governance and legal support. You will deliver effective leadership, operational direction and effective communication and will be responsible for the effective use of resources to implement the key objectives. Collaborating across the whole Donkey Sanctuary organisation you will build a cultural framework of activity to create a sustainable model of activities aligned to the overall strategy of the charity.
Principle duties will include –
• Advocating with local and country stakeholders to raise the status of donkeys and mules and improve living conditions of donkeys and mules in country
• Ensuring that donkeys and mules under care are kept with best standards to increase rehoming figures and setting El Refugio as best model for donkey care in country
• Inspiring, motivating and leading teams to deliver a broad range of activities which are aligned to the strategy of the charity
• Performance managing, developing and supporting the project team in line with the charity’s strategic aims and objectives
• Ensuring policies, procedures and codes of practice are followed in all areas and that all employees are aware of their responsibilities – specifically in regards to health and safety, legal and environmental policies and general duty of care
• Ensuring budgets deliver agreed operational objectives and that financial statements are audited annually and submitted according to in-country legislation
• Ensuring efficient and cost effective operation of all activities
• Preparing a comprehensive strategy to align El Refugio with the rest of the organisation’s targets.
Excellent organisation and planning skills are essential for this role alongside successfully building lasting relationships and collaborating with key stakeholders at all levels. You will have changing priorities and time restraints, a number of simultaneous projects and responsibility of the financial budget.
Previous experience of working in the charity/not for profit sectors is desirable, as is working in animal welfare, and/or working with equines or in Animal Assisted Interventions.
If you feel you have the qualities, skills and experience to fulfil this varied, rewarding and unique role, and would like to play a major part in shaping the evolving programme of change taking place within the charity, we would love to hear from you. Ideally based at the main office and visitor centre in Fuente de Piedra Malaga, the Country Manager may also be based at our Dona Rosa farm in Fregenal de la Sierra in the region of Extremadura. However, flexibility to travel between the two locations to provide effective, balanced leadership is essential.
In light of the ongoing situation with Covid-19 we are amending our recruitment process to include alternative means of interview such as Skype during this period. This is constantly being reviewed.
Closing date for completed applications: Monday 6 July 2020.
The Donkey Sanctuary is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable people (children and adults), and expects all staff and volunteers to undertake this commitment. Applicants will be subject to safer recruitment processes, including an application for a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check where required for the post.
