VMware is looking for an Engineering Manager interested in leading the Bitnami Content Engineering R&D team, part of the Modern Applications Platform group. The team is primarily focused on implementing new Cloud Native applications for Tanzu Application Catalog , but also engaged in configuring those servers and applications to be secure and production-ready on Kubernetes environments.
We are looking for a manager who can collaborate with technical leads, product managers, other engineering teams and customers to get the requirements and manage the priorities for including solutions as part of the Tanzu Application Catalog. You will contribute to product strategy, drive technical architecture decisions, and design solutions to resolve problems for our customers.
This manager will need to be cognizant of the team’s goals and build out splans for individuals to have opportunities for personal/professional growth as well as keeping the team on track with deadlines and milestones for all the projects.

Assigning and prioritizing the projects for engineers in the team.
Advocate for the team by moving decisions forward and eliminating blockers .
Effectively communicates verbally and through documentation to internal and external stakeholders.
Lead engineers, aid in career development and foster a positive organizational culture.
Ensure the development and coaching of your team, providing timely and professional feedback, and working on career plans to support and nurture each team member's growth
Facilitate blameless retrospectives to help enable our learning culture and improve the reliability of our platform.
You should be doing regular 1:1 with your direct reports, discuss short term and long term goals, and set them up for success!
You will be responsible for Day-to-Day engineering activities such as sprint planning, measuring the velocity of the team using story points.
You will be leading agile teams and are expected to understand the business requirements from product managers, review the design approaches with the team, plan and schedule various development tasks closely working with teams, resolve issues/conflicts if any and above all own the quality of the software developed in the process.
Required Experience and skills
Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science or equivalent preferred; demonstrable understanding of systems, algorithms, and OO design required.
8+ years in leading software development projects and managing direct reports.
Deep understanding of Kubernetes technology, container-focused Linux distributions, and virtualization in the cloud.
Proficient knowledge of a back-end programming language (i.e. Go, Ruby, NodeJS, Python, etc.) and code versioning tools.
Excellent written and verbal communication & presentation skills. Able to communicate with individuals at all levels within the organization.
Experience working in an Agile culture using aligned frameworks such as SAFe, Scrum, Lean-Agile and/or Kanban.
