Manager of the Cytometry Platform
VHIR offers a position to be the Manager of the Cytometry Platform of the High Technology Unit (UAT). The UAT belongs to the VHIR pre-clinical core-facilities, providing highly specialized equipment along with scientific and technical expertise to assist researchers in experimental design and data analysis. UAT portfolio comprises Cytometry, Microscopy, Genomics, Metabolomics and Molecular Diagnosis services. In addition, UAT collaborates with other VHIR core-facilities giving support to biomedical research projects, and also manages specialized training and teaching activities.
The Cytometry Platform comprises currently two analyzer cytometers (Fortessa/FacsCalibur, both from BD), one cell sorter (FacsAria from BD) and one compact multiplexing reader (Luminex Magpix), as well as data analysis stations equipped with specific software (FCS Express, FlowJo, FACSDiva). This Platform is intended to provide high-quality services to research groups from Vall d’Hebron Campus, and also to external users.
UAT works under the requirements of the Quality Management System ISO9001:2015.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Education and qualifications:
Required:
? Degree in Health Sciences (Medicine, Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedicine, Chemistry, Pharmacy or similar).
? Specific formation in Quality Management Systems (ISO)
? Proficiency in Catalan, Spanish and English, both written and oral.
Experience and knowledge:
Required:
? Minimum of 5 years of experience working as a specialized technician in a Cytometry Core-Facility.
? Experience in management of cytometry equipment (cell analyzers, cell sorters, multiplex readers), both in machine handling and maintenance.
? Experience in all the stages related to the work-flow of cytometry experiments, especially those applied to biomedical sciences:
? Design of cytometry experiments, including antibody panel design
? Protocols of sample preparation and staining
? Technical execution of the experiments by using the flow cytometry equipment
? Analysis and interpretation of cytometry data. Knowledge of cytometry softwares (FlowJo, FCXpress) will be highly valued.
? Experience in collaborating with the development of research projects where cytometry techniques are highly involved, establishing the cytometry protocols required to fit the specific needs of these projects when required.
? Experience in working under quality management systems (ISO9001). Knowledge of other quality systems will also be considered.
? Knowledge and practical application of biosafety standards in the field of cytometry.
? Self-motivated, highly proactive and well-organized person.
? Excellent problem-solving, communication skills and team-working abilities are strongly required.
? Strong customer orientation and service vocation are a must.
? Experience in less common flow cytometry analyses and technical aspects will be highly valued. For example: small extracellular vesicles isolation and analysis, circulating tumor cells, spectral cytometry.
? Experience in other techniques offered by UAT (especially in Microscopy).
? Experience with administrative tasks related to the routine operation of a core-facility: booking management, purchase of materials and reagents, budgeting, invoicing.
Main responsibilities and duties:
The main and most important function is the management of the Cytometry Platform activity, under the supervision of the Head of Unit. Main duties will be:
? Optimal set up and daily maintenance of the equipment.
? Users support in all kind of issues related to cytometry applications to research projects: experimental design, technical performance and data analysis.
? Equipment handling in technician-assisted experiments using any of the cytometers included in the Platform.
? Initial training and on-demand assistance to self-service users. Implementation of SOPs.
? Management and registration of the preventive and corrective maintenance of the equipment, under the established quality procedures. Management of breakdowns through external technical assistance services.
? Development of new cytometry protocols, according to the necessities of each particular research project.
? Administrative management of the Platform activity (bookings, quotations, billing, reagent purchasing…) ? To ensure that all the platform activities are carried out in accordance with the requirements established in the procedures of the Quality System of the Unit. Promote and launch continuous improvement actions.
Complementary functions will be:
• To support the Microscopy Platform when required, according to the whole activity of the Unit.
• To participate actively in teaching activities organized by the Unit or in those in which the UAT is involved.
