In the last five years, in addition to actively collaborating with Grupo Cajamar's initiatives around agri-food development and the transfer of knowledge and technology, Manuel Lainez has served as an independent consultant on agri-food innovation and sustainability for several of the main companies and sector organizations. of the Spanish agri-food sector.
Previously, and for more than three decades, he has also held management responsibilities at the head of state-level technology centers, such as the National Institute of Agricultural and Food Research and Technology (INIA), and the Valencian Institute of Agrarian Research (IVIA) and the Animal Research and Technology Center (APPOINTMENT), both dependent on the Generalitat Valenciana. Likewise, he has been an associate professor of Animal Production at the Polytechnic University of Valencia for ten years.

The new director of the Grupo Cajamar Foundation was born in Navarrete del Río (Teruel) in 1963, and resides in Valencia, where he has developed most of his professional career. After graduating in Veterinary Medicine from University of Zaragoza in 1986 with the Extraordinary End of Degree Award, he obtained a doctorate in Agronomic Engineering in 1998 from the Polytechnic University of Valencia with a thesis titled 'Technical characterization of pig production in the community

After completing his university studies, in 1987 he joined the Department of Agriculture of the Generalitat Valenciana as a career civil servant, where he served as head of Livestock Innovation and Technology and as head of the Livestock Area. In 2005 he was appointed first director of the Animal Research and Technology Center (CITA), based in Segorbe (Castellón), and three years later, in April 2008, general director of Agricultural Research and Agri-Food Technology of the Generalitat Valenciana.
Four years later, in 2012, he went on to direct the National Institute of Agrarian Research and Agri-Food Technology (INIA), then dependent on the Ministry of Economy and currently integrated into the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC). From this position, he launched different calls for applied research with the intention of promoting coordination between the different agricultural research centers at the regional level, and led the working group in charge of developing the Spanish Bioeconomy Strategy (2016), which contributed to the subsequent Spanish Circular Economy Strategy (2018).
At the university level, Manuel Lainez has been an associate professor of Animal Production of the Polytechnic University of Valencia. He has supervised six doctoral theses related to the field of livestock farming, bioeconomy and sustainability in food production, in addition to publishing thirty articles in scientific and professional journals in the field of animal production and health, and participated in dozens of R&D projects from national and European calls. He has coordinated the books 'The dairy sector in Spain', together with Edelmiro Lopez, and 'Sustainability in livestock production', together with Salvador Calvet and Fernando Estellés, both published by Cajamar in 2022; and he has also been technical director of the magazine 'Anaporc', of the National Association of Scientific Pig Farming. Likewise, he is a member of the Spanish Association of Poultry Science and the National Association of Scientific Pig Farming.
In 2018, after more than three decades holding different positions of responsibility in the public administration, both state and regional, he began a new stage as an independent consultant in agri-food innovation and sustainability, in which he began to frequently collaborate with Grupo Cajamar in its strategy. innovation and development of its two experimental centers, the organization of sectoral events, the publishing of specialized publications and the Technical Office of the Observatory of the Digitalization of the Spanish Agri-Food Sector promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food with the support of Cajamar.
