JVS Toronto was founded as Jewish Vocational Service of Metropolitan Toronto in 1947 by members of the Jewish community in an effort to help World War II survivors find work after their arrival in Canada. We are now a broad-based non-profit organization that helps people from all walks of life. JVS Toronto helps people identify their strengths and goals, develop skills, and achieve success in school, work, and life. JVS Toronto is a member agency of the UJA Federation of Greater Toronto and United Way Greater Toronto. The agency's well-trained and highly skilled management and front-line staff are valued by peers, colleagues, and its Board of Directors. JVS Toronto is an important service provider for municipal, provincial, and federal funders. The organization is committed to quality and is accredited through Imagine Canada. JVS Toronto serves a diverse group of people that include the unemployed and under-employed, newcomers to Canada, youth-at-risk, and people with disabilities at nine locations throughout the GTA and York Region. The agency operates a fee-for-service Career Education and Psychology division that provides services directly to individuals on a sliding scale and to third parties including school boards, community agencies, foundations, and municipalities. JVS Toronto has a host of community partnerships and collaborations. The agency has an annual operating budget of $17 million, with over 160 staff and is a unionized workplace.
