Join our fast paced environment at WhereTo as a Level III Data Engineer and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of travel through data analysis and innovation.
A day in the life... Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and define key business problems that can be addressed using data-driven solutionsDesign and implement advanced analytical models and algorithms to extract meaningful insights from large, complex datasets related to customer behavior, travel trends, and operational efficiency. Develop predictive and prescriptive models to optimize pricing strategies, customer segmentation, recommendation systems, and other critical aspects of the travel experience. Analyze historical data and real-time data streams to uncover patterns, trends, and anomalies that inform decision-making and contribute to a deeper understanding of our customers. Work closely with software engineers and developers to integrate data pipelines, ensuring seamless data collection, storage, and processing using technologies such as Node.js. Lead the end-to-end process of data analysis, from data collection and preprocessing to model development, validation, and deployment.Communicate findings and insights effectively to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders through data visualizations, reports, and presentations.Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in data science, machine learning, and travel technology to propose innovative solutions that maintain our competitive edge.Experience & Qualifications Bachelor's degree or higher in a quantitative field (e.g., Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics) or related experience. Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Data Engineer, Data Scientist, or in a similar role, with a proven track record of delivering impactful data-driven solutionsStrong proficiency in programming languages such as Python (required) and Node.js (preferred) for data manipulation, analysis, and model development.Experience with machine learning techniques, statistical analysis, data mining, and data visualization.Proficiency in working with neural networks and deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) to develop and deploy advanced machine learning modelsFamiliarity with travel industry data (e.g., booking data, customer profiles, location data) is a plus.Expertise in working with databases such as PostgreSQL and Druid, data warehouses, and data processing frameworks.Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.Strong communication skills to convey complex technical concepts to various audiencesExperience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) is a plus. Publications, patents, or contributions to the data science community are a strong advantage.
