We are now seeking an exceptional professional to join our team as the Director, Research & Innovation, reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer. In this influential role, you will contribute to our diverse research programs, ensuring excellence and innovation in the development of gene therapies for currently untreated diseases. With your background and deep knowledge of Chemistry, you will play a significant role in furthering our work and development of inteins and protein splicing. Your leadership will extend to managing scientists dedicated to advancing our gene therapy initiatives.
Reporting to our Chief Technology Officer, this is what you'll be working on:
Strategic Leadership: ·Provide strategic direction and leadership for various research programs, aligning objectives with the overall mission and vision of SpliceBio.
·Collaborate closely with the Chief Technology Officer to drive innovation and excellence in research initiatives.
Program Oversight: ·Oversee the planning, execution, and progress of multiple research programs.
·Ensure alignment with organizational goals and timelines, driving successful program outcomes.
·Lead and inspire a team of scientists, fostering a collaborative and innovative research environment.
·Provide mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities for team members.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: ·Work closely with cross-functional teams including bioanalytical sciences, process development, and manufacturing to integrate research findings into product development strategies.
Scientific Excellence: ·Ensure the highest standards of scientific rigor, innovation, and methodology in research activities.
·Foster a culture of continuous improvement and exploration of cutting-edge technologies.
Reporting and Communication: ·Regularly report progress, findings, and challenges to the Chief Technology Officer and executive leadership.
·Effectively communicate research insights and outcomes to diverse stakeholders.
Requirements For a successful fulfilment of this position, we are interested in candidates meeting the following requirements:
A minimum of an advanced degree (Ph.D.) in Chemistry or Biochemistry, or a related field. 10+ years of progressive experience in research, with a focus on protein chemistry and related areas. Bonus experience: protein engineering, organic/peptide/bioorthogonal chemistry, computational skills and celular assays. Proven experience in leading and managing scientific teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, and achieving program goals. Demonstrated ability to provide strategic direction for research programs, aligning scientific efforts with broader organizational objectives. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Strong collaborative mindset, with experience working across various functions and disciplines within a biotechnology or pharmaceutical organization. Passion for driving scientific innovation, staying abreast of industry trends, and integrating new technologies into research programs. Commitment to mentorship and development of scientists, fostering a dynamic and growth-oriented team culture. Experience reporting to executive leadership, providing updates, and contributing to strategic decision-making. Fluency in English, in speech and in writing. SpliceBio SpliceBio is firmly set on its course to develop treatments for several diseases for which until now no treatment exists.SpliceBio's platform technology, developed over 20 years in the Muir Lab at Princeton University, allows for efficient delivery of large genes with adeno-associated vectors (AAV). Genes are split into fragments to be then put back together to the full-length protein to be delivered.
In early 2022, the company completed the largest ever series A financing in the Spanish biotech sector; an oversubscribed €50 million finance round co-led by UCB Ventures and existing shareholder Ysios Capital and the participation of new investors New Enterprise Associates, Gilde Healthcare, Novartis Venture Fund and existing backer Asabys Partners which seeded the company in 2020 with Ysios. This financing round validates SpliceBio's approach of exploiting protein splicing to develop next generation gene therapies. The company is addressing one of the key limitations of AAV, being their limited cargo capacity.
