This position involves post-award financial administration, monitoring expenditures, ensuring compliance with funding agency regulations, and collaborating with project teams to support successful project outcomes.JOB DUTIES: Post-Award Financial Management:Reviews and certifies financial aspects of sponsored research projects after award acceptanceReconciles the financial statements of the award in accordance with SLU policies, federal regulations and U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)Ensures against financial misstatements in accordance with US GAAP or federal regulationsProvides necessary information to external auditors regarding the completeness and accuracy of financial transaction recorded to awardsBudget Monitoring:Reviews and certifies project expenditures to ensure compliance with budgetary constraints and federal funding agency regulations, to include accurately forecasting future labor and non-labor grant expendituresWorks closely with Grant Operations ("GO") Center post-award specialists and principal investigators to address any budgetary issues or variancesProvides financial guidance and approves correcting journal entries in accordance with SLU policies, federal regulations and U.S. GAAPCompliance and Regulation:Ensures compliance with funding agency regulations, institutional policies, and generally accepted accounting principlesStays informed about changes in regulations and guidelines affecting post-award financial managementProvides necessary information to external auditors regarding the SLU's compliance with federal regulationsSubrecipient Monitoring:Collaborates with subrecipients to monitor and review their financial reports and compliance with project budgetsEnsures financial subrecipient financial transactions are in accordance with U.S. GAAP and federal regulationsCloseout Procedures:Oversees the financial aspects of project closeout, including the final review and certification of project expenses, preparation of the financial report, and submission of residual balance entriesIssues quarterly reports required by sponsorWorks with GO Center post-award specialist and grant accountants to resolve any outstanding financial matters during closeoutCommunication and Collaboration:Collaborates with GO Center, grant accountants, principal investigators, and other stakeholders to provide financial guidance and supportCommunicates effectively with internal and external partners regarding financial matters related to sponsored programsKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Familiarity with federal regulations and compliance requirements related to sponsored programsStrong understanding of U.S. GAAP accounting, including Accounting Standards Codification 958Proficient in financial software and systems commonly used in research administrationFinancial reconciliation skillsStrong analytical skillsStrong organizational skillsStrong problem-solving skillsExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in accounting or financeAt least 4 years' experience working in a progressive accounting rolePublic accounting experience, specifically in an auditing organization in accordance with the Office of Management and Budget Compliance Supplement 2 CGR Part 200PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master of Business Administration (MBA) or Master's degree in accounting or financeCertified Public Accountant (CPA)Previous experience with the Workday Financial Management systemPrevious experience in post-award financial management for sponsored research programFunctionAccounting Scheduled Weekly Hours:40 Saint Louis University is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
