The roleALS Geochemistry is looking for a Fire Assayer to work in our Fire Assay section at our facility in Malaga. Fire Assay is a pyrometallurgical process for analyzing precious metals. This is a hands-on role requiring strong attention to detail. Working within a team, you will be trained so that you can weigh samples, add flux reagents, fuse the mixture in a high-temperature furnace, and collect precious metals (gold) through cupellation and prilling on a daily basis. Before sending the sample prills to the laboratory for testing, you'll need to thoroughly inspect the samples, fusion pots, lead buttons and prills to ensure the correctness and record any anomalies. To be suitable for this role, you must be able to perform the procedure promptly, organized and accurately. In addition, as this will employ a combination of intense heat (900 - 1100°C) produced by a furnace, dry chemicals and refractory materials regularly, you must proactively look out for safety issues and practice fire assay safety procedures. The hourly rate of $33.53 per hour is a starting rate. In addition, you will receive shift allowances of 15% for the afternoon shift and 20% for the night shift. As you build your experience in this role, you can secure a full-time position and earn higher pay rates. Additionally, penalty rates are paid for any weekend or other overtime (optional) and are added to the hourly rate advertised. This Casual position will involve working a rotating 8-hour shift, 5 days per week, with 1 week each of Days, Nights, and Afternoons.
