A day in the life .. . Design and manage the underlying infrastructure, including servers, networks, storage, and cloud resources in collaboration with the infrastructure teamEnsure that the application infrastructure is reliable, secure, and capable of handling the organization's workloads Implement automation tools and practices to streamline the deployment and management of applicationsWork with containerization technologies such as Docker and container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes to package and manage applications consistently across different environmentsWork with cloud service providers (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) to leverage cloud resources for scalability and flexibilityImplement and maintain monitoring solutions to track the health and performance of applications and infrastructure componentsImplement security best practices, access controls, and encryption to protect data and systems Provide guidance to development team on best practicesOptimize the development workflow to ensure efficient engineering operations Design for scalability and high availability to ensure that applications can handle increased loads and maintain uptime in the event of failuresDevelop and test disaster recovery plans to ensure data and application availability in case of unexpected outages or disasters Experience & Qualifications More than 5 years experience in a software development roleExperience with building and architecting high quality software from scratchExperience mentoring junior engineers a plusExperience architecting new solutions a plusAbility to analyze new technologies and weigh their pros and consStrong ability to understand and analyze new systemsStrong communication skills and an ability to articulate complex ideas requiredStrong experience with compilation and bundle technologies requiredStrong Node.js and TypeScript skillsStrong understanding of asynchronous I/OExcellent software architecture skills and a passion for maintainable, organized codeExperienced with AWS, EC3, S3, RDS, CloudFront/CDNsExpert with Linux, Ubuntu/Debian (BASH scripting a plus) Experience with CI platforms (Jenkins, CircleCI, Travis, etc)Experience with REST-based Web Service API implementationExperience with MySQL/PostgreSQL (or similar) and understanding of how they work internallyExperience with Algorithms and Data StructuresExperience with NoSQL databases is desirable (i.e MongoDB, Cassandra) Experience with memory cache systems (Redis, Memcached)Experience with other systems programming languages is a bonus (Go, C/C++, Rust, etc), and/or scripting languages (Python) and/or JVM-based languages (Scala, Java, Groovy)Experience with pure functional programming and/or functional programming libraries and concepts is a bonus (Haskell, Scala, F#, Ramda, Lo-Dash FP etc) Strong experience in designing and implementing highly horizontally-scalable architectureStrong understanding of Git fundamentalsStrong understanding of Docker fundamentalsWork Perks! - What's in it for you: FCTG is renowned internationally for having amazing perks and an even better culture.
