CRAG is an independent research institution engaged in leading-edge basic and applied plant and farm animal sciences. CRAG is established as a Consortium of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA), Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), and University of Barcelona (UB). The Center is located at the UAB Campus, and currently hosts 200 members from across the world.
The Center for Research in Agricultural Genomics (CRAG) is looking for a Postdoc Researcher to be part of the group "Plant viruses"
The candidate will be in charge of experiments with plant pathogenic viruses in single and mixed infections to be tested on selected host plants, mainly cucurbits, and considering both susceptible and resistant genotypes, and different inoculations procedures, including transmission mediated by insect vectors. Experiments will be conducted at CRAG and in collaboration with colleagues and project partners at the IHSM (Institute for Mediterranean and Subtropical Horticulture La Mayora, IHSM-UMA-CSIC, Málaga).
The tasks are included within the framework of the project VIRTIGATION "Emerging viral diseases in tomatoes and cucurbits: Implementation of mitigation strategies for durable disease management" funded by European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 101000570.
REQUIREMENTS: Educational requirements: Doctoral degree (PhD) on Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Agricultural Sciences or similar.
Skills: Capacities for experimental design, data analysis and scientific writing. Team work. Fluency in English.
Experience: Previous experience in research laboratories of molecular virology and phytopathology, specifically working with plant viruses and associated biotechnological tools. Good knowledge of molecular biology procedures required, in particular for virus diagnostics and quantification of viral load.
